give a splendid view of the island. The D’Alt Vila which is a landmark
in Ibiza. There are many old churches in every town. The steep street
of Capilla de San Ciriaco is legendary as it was through this place
that Catalan soldiers conquered Ibiza. Feixes de Ibiza has the remains
of a network of watering areas constructed by the Arabs. Pirates are
also an important part of the history of Ibiza and the Monumento a los
Corsarios was made to honor them. There are museums of archeology and
ethnology. Museu D’art Contemporani is a museum for artists from all
over the world to exhibit their works at the yearly exhibitions
organized by the museum.
The hippie market every
Wednesday is worth paying a visit for the variety of hand made goods
sold here. When you are in Ibiza you can never be away from beaches for
long – there are more than 80 of them. Each one is picturesque and full
of action with all the adventure and sports it offers. There is the
Cesar Watersports Center for all the sports activities.
Es Vedra a 400 meter high rock is an attractive point. The Botafac
lighthouse gives a majestic view of the walled city of Ibiza.
Ibiza is also famous for
many caves like the Cova d'es Culleram, discovered in 1907 and Caves
C´an Marca, which is more than a hundred thousand years old, Ses
Fontanelles Caves with remains of ancient paintings, Es Cuieram Cave
dedicated to the Goddess Tanit and Santa Caves which contains
impressive stalactites. There is a natural cave which has an aquarium
now.
If the discoverer in you wants to find out more, you have the option of
renting a car, moped or bicycle available at reasonable price at all
places. There are boats and yachts which will take you to the far-flung
areas on the sea to experience the known and unknown coves.
The island bewilders you
with its ever growing appeal among the tourists. You have to step out
from the lazy beaches and walk into the nature’s lap welcoming you with
so much to relish. The best way to know the island is by becoming a
part of it and enjoy!
