San Antonio Bay actually resides in the municipality of San Jose, though you'll
never spot the dividing line from San Antonio town itself. It's an easy stroll into
the town proper, though with all the amenities the San Antonio Bay has to offer,
there is really not much reason, other than adventurous exploration, to leave the
area.
Accommodation in San Antonio Bay varies drastically. There are four star hotels
offering all-inclusive breaks. There are also plenty of self-catering apartments,
and you can find everything in between, at some of the most reasonable prices on
the island.
San Antonio Bay's main beach can become very crowded in the summer, but it's a lively
atmosphere, not to mention a fun, yet safe, day out. There are bars and restaurants
and cafés dotted all the way along the shorefront, so no matter what you crave for
lunch, there is at least one option to suit you.
The beach is made up of crystal-white sands, and the activities here are practically
endless, from beach volleyball and parasailing to watersports such as jet-skis,
banana-boats, pedalloes and water-skiing. Boredom here is not a factor.
If it's a change of scenery you seek for your lounging, then hop on to one of the
many small ferries in the port area and within twenty minutes or less you'll find
yourself at one of the gorgeous beaches of Cala Comte, Cala Bassa or Cala Tarida,
all well worth spending a day on.
Because of its west-facing aspect, the sunsets from any point in San Antonio are
simply breathtaking. Many of the cafés and bars facing the water will accompany
your sunset-gazing with ambient chill-out music. It's like a massage for the senses.
The bay of San Antonio has all the usual accoutrements you'd expect of a holiday
destination, and then some. Shops, those selling both day-to-day necessities, and
those specialising in tourist memorabilia, abound. There are countless restaurants,
serving cuisine from all over the world, and more bars than you can shake a castanet
at.
The clubbing scene here reaches its peak in July and August, the 'hot' months in
more ways than one. It can be expensive, particularly if you insist on visiting
the top clubs (those DJ's wages aren't cheap, you know), but clubbing here on any
sort of a budget can still result in a night to remember.
